Calling All Wild Life Experts...

Please help me identify this print. If it is what I would guess it is...then I will not longer shoot at a new favorite location of mine. Dang it! I should have taken more pictures of the other hundreds of prints. There were Deer, Elk...and other large creatures I wouldn't even know what to guess were. It would have made a great field trip for biology students.

Ian says COUGAR ... and he wants to know where you were.

I thought it was a cougar too. It was huge! However everything I read up on says that cougar tracks usually dont have claws. That's more a sign of a large dog, wolf, etc.
The only time cougars show there claws are when they are running or pouncing...which could be very possible since there were tons of other wild game tracks there.

We were at the reservor. It looks like all the tracks were made when the mud was wet and then we got a dry spell...because they are all in there like cement. Very cool.

looks like a bear to me. I'll ask Kirby what he thinks.

I'm sending it to my dad...he has seen plenty of cougar tracks in the blue mountains during elk season...

I thought the same thing about the claws...

My first thought was a bear but I am not sure you have bears there and of course I have not ever seen a bear track. Be careful if you go there again.

Bears have 5 pads and claws.

my dad says it's for sure a dog track.

a cat track would be much rounder.

***just for reference my dad was a science teacher and has a Masters in biology/science and has a ton of background in tracking and idetifying animal tracks in our area.

My first guess was a cougar.

I'm just glad you didn't find a dead body out there. What are you thinking going to that creepy place? Just the thought if it makes me tremble! :)
